How often have you thought, “I don’t know what I want” or “I don’t know what to do”? These thoughts were my go-to excuses for years. Any time I was at a crossroads, I would just throw my hands up in the air (metaphorically) and say “I don’t know what to do!” This would leave me feeling conflicted, frustrated and stuck.

When we’re creating our dream life, our vast amount of choices can often leave us feeling paralyzed. We become so scared of making the wrong choice, that we don’t do anything at all. What’s terrifying is that we can stay this way for years.

Growth is an essential part of life. Without it, people become lost, feeling as if their life is not evolving. Instead of staying stuck in fear, tune in and follow these steps to keep moving forward and create never-ending growth in your life.

Connect with your intuition.

So often we search for someone else to guide us through life. We think it’ll be easier if someone just tells us what to do. The problem with this is that everyone who gives advice bases that advice on their own personal experience. This seems obvious, but we rarely acknowledge it. Another person’s life experience has nothing to do with yours.

We all have a wealth of experience that has shaped the way we view the world, making it very difficult for anyone to give unbiased opinions. Therefore, you can’t rely on someone else to make your life decisions for you, because they’re thinking about what they would do, not what you should do. Asking other people for their opinions will only create a static between you and your guiding intuition.

Ask for guidance.

Whenever you’re at a crossroads, all you need to do is ask for guidance. The most important thing you need to realize is that deep down you know exactly what is best for you.

One way to connect with your intuition, is to find a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted, have a journal by your side, and set a timer for 10 minutes. Close your eyes and say something along the lines of “Thank you, higher self, for helping me find a clear solution”.

Feel free to address these questions to your intuition, higher self, the universe or God. As you sit in silence, don’t search for an answer, just breath and continue to give thanks for the guidance coming your way. You may hear an answer clear as day or the answer may come as a gut feeling. When you open your eyes, write down any thoughts or feelings that may have come up. Don’t think or judge the words on the page, just free write and let your intuition come through. Do this as many days as you need to, until your next step becomes clear.

Take faithful action.

Once you become clear on what to do, it’s now time to take action from a place of faith. Often we know what we want, but we’re unclear as to how we get there. The actions you’re meant to take often show up as fleeting ideas.

Let’s say you’re job hunting and you know you want to get in the world of finance, but you have no idea where to start. You may randomly think of an acquaintance who is a financial advisor. You think, “Maybe I should reach out?” But then immediately you begin to talk yourself out of it for a million different reasons – “I barely know this person, they probably won’t be able to help, I don’t want to bother them…”.

The thing is, that fleeting idea is your intuition trying to guide you. That single call could change the trajectory of your career. Maybe this person knows someone who is hiring or maybe they give you a small piece of advice that leads you to the next step.

Other times, we get clear on what we want, but then start to obsess over how we’re going to get there. The thing is, when you’re connected to your intuition, you’re naturally being guided. You don’t need to have every move mapped out ahead of time, just take each next step that feels right. The path towards reaching your goal may be a winding road, but have faith that what you want is waiting for you at the end.

You are in control.

When you’re feeling stuck and unsure, remember that you are always in control and deep down you do know what to do next. Don’t obsess over whether or not you’re making the right decision, because there is no “right” decision. Whatever you feel in your gut is what you’re meant to do and whatever path that decision takes you down is the path you’re meant to take.

In times of uncertainty, fall back on faith in yourself and take a step, any step, forward. Trust your instinct and then make a move. Each action will lead you to the next, and before long you’ll be gifted with exactly what you were searching for, or something better.
